Aloha Ball-Correction

CORRECTION received from Glenn Okazaki.......

Hi everyone, statement retraction requested by reigning champions, Arunas Bizokas and Katusha Demidova.

It was previously noted in the email that Arunas and Katusha had retired, and Victor and Annastasia would become world champions.

Ron Montez was informed by Arunas & Katusha that they are not retiring and requests a correction be posted.

Frank's note: Info about Arunas Bizokas and Katusha Demidova have been deleted from the previous blog.

IBDI 54th Anniversary Dance...UPDATE

UPDATE: Photos submitted by Charlene Jay

Lucky there's a Palladium....and with the aircondition working. Boy! this humidity and heat can slow down anyone's energy level. Lani and I got to the Palladium a little after 7. Thought we'd be too late to pick up our presale ticket bento. The parking lot was filled so the best thing to do was wait for a golfer to depart. Waiting paid a parking spot and our bento, too..

Inside the Ballroom was SRO (Standing Room Only).....a  lot of dancers were standing against the wall on the Ewa side. Music DeeJays were Henry Lee and Jane Umeda.

EmCee for the event was past prez Chris Jay who had a good handle on the program. Current prez  Marsha Ninomiya welcomed everyone with an appreciation message.

The program began with a Kung Fu demonstration and Lion Dance by Grandmaster Zen Seng Au's Shaolin Arts Society. The demo included unarmed solo exercises and weapons (swords and long staff) maneuvers. Concluding the Kung Fu demonstration were two Lions dancing into the crowd while keeping time with the tempo of the drum players.

General dancing and a short period for awarding door prizes to the lucky ticket holders soon followed.

Come about 8 o'clock the showcase of exhibition dancing under the direction of Stage Manager Charlene Jay began. The showcase included:

Professional Joe Shorba and Hami Draper danced the Mambo.
Professional Reggie Gascon and Joseline Sangalang dance the International Waltz.
Fuego Y Agua Dancers performed the Salsa.
Richard and Lynn Nakamura danced the International Tango.
Professional Carlos Chang and Ashley Salzedo danced the International Samba.
Richard Nakamura, Ashley Salzedo, Carlos Chang, Lynn Nakamura

The Fuego Y Agua Dancers were Chieko Kimata, Yuki Komiyama,
Veronica Munez, Becky Arakawa, Yukie Honay, Yuka Jenkins

Fuego Y Aqua Dancers were James E. Jones Jr. Dano Garcia,
Kevin Laoron, Alvin Aurelio, Ed Ho

Reggie Gascon and Joseline Sangalang
To get mostly everyone off their seats and onto the dance floor the showcase performers and the IBDI Board members participated in the Snowball dance to a Cha Cha music.

General dancing continued till closing at 9:30.
