Aloha Everyone,

Sign up for our 2015 Membership on or before Nov. 29 and receive free admittance to the dances at the palladium on Sat., Nov. 29 and Friday, Dec. 19, 2014. We have the full ballroom for both dances.

Don't forget our Halloween Dance on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014 at the palladium. We have the full ballroom and we will have a costume contest with cash prizes.
2014 Members $3 / non members $6.00 to attend the dance.

Nov. 29 & Dec. 19, 2014 - if you will not be renewing your membership until Jan. 2015, the cost to attend the dances will be $3 for 2014 members and $6.00 for non-members. Again, if you sign up for 2015 membership on or before Nov. 29, admittance is free to you on Nov. 29 & Dec.19. Anyone who also sign up for 2015 Membership after Nov. 29 but on or before Dec. 19 will get free admittance to the dance.

Anyone interested in joining in our quickstep group routine for Dance Magic 808's 4th Anniversary Ball, please advise us asap. You must be a 2015 member and be registered for a class during the entire time we are practicing and performing the routine. If you will be taking a trip 2 months before the performance, you might want to consider participating next year. The choreographers will determine if they will accept the students for this performance depending if the students can make the practices and if they can execute the steps. It's going to be a fun routine and beginners and advance students are welcome to join the routine.

There was also a new Line Dance taught by Joshua at the
Dance Magic 808 Anniversary Ball in Las Vegas last year. 

Also, we are planning to choreograph a hustle group routine to be performed on April 26, 2015 at our Las Vegas Showcase. Please let us know asap since practice might begin as early as Nov. 2014. Same requirements will apply for this routine as it does for the quickstep routine.

IBDI 5th Term Class Schedule

Registration for IBDI 5^th Term starts on Monday, October 6. Attached are the schedule of classes and the calendar for the 5^th Term. For beginner and novice dancers IBDI, will be offering International Cha Cha, Merengue and American Rumba. For the more experienced dancers, Jimmy Matsumoto will be continuing his popular International Samba class, and Ed and Matilda Felix will be teaching International Rumba and Foxtrot. The Felixes teach many patterns that are new to many dancers. You can add to these patterns to your dancing and impress.

At the same time during registration and free dancing in the Ewa ballroom on October 6, IBDI will be offering a Tango workshop with Glen Okazaki and Anne Ho in the Diamond Head ballroom.

Dance Magic 808 Las Vegas Showcase

Hi Everyone,

Come & join us for some fun time and dancing at Dance Magic 808's 4th Las Vegas Showcase on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Sam's Town Hotel & Casino. There will be a buffet dinner, some exhibitions, and lots of general dancing.

Every year has been so much fun and next year will be even better. The banquet tickets are $58.00 per person.

Roy Hamasaki is arranging a Vacations Hawaii package for 5 nights which begins on 4/22/2015 and returns to Honolulu on 4/27/2015. The package includes 5 nights lodging, roundtrip airfare to Las Vegas, transportation and baggage handling to/from airport to hotel, and meal coupons. Cost from Honolulu is $759.00 per person for double occupancy and for single about $80.00 more.

If you are interested in learning some fun dances, come and join Dance Magic 808's Country 2-Step and West Coast Swing Workshop with Joshua Manzano on Thursday,  August 7, 2014 from 6:30pm - 8:45pm at the Ala Wai Palladium (stage side).

It's going to be a great learning experience that you won't want to miss.

Joshua is a Dance Magic 808 Instructor and is attending UNLV. He has entered many  college dance competitions and have placed 1st in most of the categories. He is an awesome dancer, choreographer and an excellent instructor. You will love the way he teaches and dances.

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to remind the people that are coming to our anniversary ball that  it's this Friday, July 4. We can't believe that the ball is just a few days away.  We are still getting ready for this big event. It's going to be an exciting and fun evening for everyone so be prepared to be  entertained. You won't be disappointed. Don't forget to bring your dancing  shoes as there will be plenty of time to dance. The ball will look different this year but it's still going to look great as we've  had to make some adjustments because of the Polynesian Show the hotel has at  night. We plan to open the doors at 6pm and the last dance will be at 11:30pm.  Come early so you can get some dancing in before we make the  announcements and instructions which will be around 6:45pm. There will be dancing throughout dinner, during the short intermission, and lots  of dancing after the program. The no-host bar will be available from 6:15pm and will end at 10:15pm so be  sure to get your drinks in before the bar closes. For all you ladies, the Belle of the Ball contest will take place as soon as you enter the ballroom. We will have judges that will pick the winner of the Belle of the Ball.  When the formal program begins around 8:15 pm, the winner will be announced.  If you didn't sign up ahead of time, this is your chance to enter the contest. Rumba and Mambo

This is how I answered her inquiry. There are some similarities on the two dances. Both are Latin dances using 4/4 time music. The figures or syllabus can be shared with both dances. The difference is the Rumba is slow tempo and the Mambo is fast. The count of the Rumba is SLOW, QUICK, QUICK with start stepping forward with the left foot and than stepping to the right side with he right foot and followed with the left foot next to the right foot when dancing the Arthur Murray way.  The count for  the Fred Astaire way is QUICK, QUICK, SLOW with start stepping to the left side with the left foot followed with the right foot next to the left foot and then stepping forward with the left foot. The count for the Mambo is QUICK, QUICK, SLOW or QUICK, QUICK, HOLD or 2,3,4-1 with start stepping forward with left foot (2), rocking back on right foot (3), bringing the left foot back next to the right foot and hold (4-1).  The break step is on the 2 count. These are the Leader's basic steps in the American Latin style of dancing for the Rumba and Mambo. The follower's steps are just the opposite. Have fun dancing the Rumba the Arthur Murray way or the Fred Astaire way. If it feels good, it's gotta be the right one for you.

Getting Hooked On Salsa

My main girl Lani and I just lazed at home this past Monday. What with all the dancing we did Sunday night at the Grand Opening of the Aloha Dancesport Center, we had to rest up for the Salsa dance class at the Palladium in the evening. IBDI has Greg the Salsaman on tap teaching the Salsa on their Monday night schedule and since Lani and I have never learned the Salsa from a professional this was a good time to get into the rhythm. I believe that this is the first time Greg is teaching this popular Latin dance for IBDI but he did perform the Salsa with Maki Mikami in a showcase at the IBDI Inaugural Ball earlier this year at the Ala Moana Hotel.

Fast forward. Lani and I got to the Palladium a bit early to register for the Salsa class. Jim Prado's Night Club Two Step II dance class was in full swing in the Ewa Ballroom. Jim has a large following in this class as he does in all his previous dance classes.
8:10 PM came around soon and it was time to head for the Salsa class in the Diamond Head Ballroom. There were many students among the sea of red shirts (all IBDI dance instructors and assistances wear red shirts on Monday night classes). The Salsaman went slow and easy for this first class teaching the basic footwork, timing and count, leading, and technique. It was easy to follow his method without music and then with music. If you want to get hooked on Salsa, it's not too late to register for the class at the Palladium next Monday night. The class starts at 8:10 PM.

DO NOT PURCHASE TICKET NUMBERS #221 - #500 for Dance Magic 808's Anniversary Ball on July 4, 2014.  It appears that these tickets may have been stolen.  These ticket numbers have been voided and will not be honored at the door.  If for some reason you come across tickets with these numbers, please do not purchase them as it will not be honored. Just a reminder that Dance Magic 808's 3rd Anniversary Ball is on Friday, July 4, 2014 at the Pacific Beach Hotel.

If you attended the other 2 Anniversary Balls, you know this one is going to be as much fun as the last 2. If you haven't attended one of our anniversary balls, you'll be in for a treat.
