Mambo/Cha Cha Workshop with Ron Montez

Info on the  Workshop With Ron was submitted by Yanna Samkova of Aloha Dancesport Center.  

Workshop with Ron Special Group Class with Mr. Ron Montez Ron is visiting Hawaii on weekend of September 23-24,2018 and will be available for coaching at our studio ( Aloha Dancesport Center) on Saturday September 23rd in the afternoon. Mr. Montez  will be conducting a Mambo/ Cha-cha  Workshop  at 5 pm  Open to all levels cover charge: $25 per person Workshop will start sharp at 5pm, to register please arrive between 4:45-5pm Any more questions contact yannajs@gmail.com Ron Montez is one of the most respected personalities in the dance business. He previously held the title as the 7-time undefeated United States Professional Latin Champion. He achieved 4th place in the World’s Professional Latin Championships held at Royal Albert Hall in London. He has reached the final of the prestigious British Championships in Blackpool, England. Ron is the recipient of the 2009 United States Dance Championships Hall of Fame Award. He is recognized as a World Class adjudicator, dance coach and choreographer in both American and International styles.  Ron is the organizer of the Chicago Crystal Ball and the Aloha Ball, held in Kona Hawaii. Ron was the co-host and expert commentator for the PBS television show “Championship Ballroom Dancing”, which was hosted by Rita Moreno, Juliet Prowse, Barbara Eden, Sandy Duncan and Jasmine Guy. Ron is a national examiner for DIVDA (Dance Vision International Dance Association). In this capacity he examines both amateur and professional dancers who wish to obtain certification. Is Social Dancing The Secret To Happiness?

                   
                               
There was this cartoon in the Sunday funnies where a guy climbs up the highest mountain to seek the answer to the universal question, "What is the Secret to Happiness?" He finally gets to the top and meets this wise old man, complete with white beard, and wearing a long white robe. When asked the proverbial question, the old guy belts out, "Happiness can only be obtained with Wine, Wild Women, and Social Dancing!" (Okay dat's my clue to mix in an anecdote). After some thought, the climber explained, "But I'm married!" The old guy retorted, "Then Social Dancing is your only path to Happiness!" Well the climber took those words seriously like no can go wrong if he took up Social Dance lessons at the nearest dance schools or at the Palladium where various dance clubs have dance classes. Besides he thought, "Es goin' make my main squeeze one happy wahine." So he enrolls in the school of Slow-Slow-Quick-Quick-Slow, and Quick-Quick-Slow. He is a slow learner but he not goin' let any ting discourage him. After umpteen weeks of lessons, he decides to test his newly acquired skills at the Palladium and of course with his main squeeze at his side. Now it's a weekend and the big guns are out that night for a big night of fun dancing...you know da kine..da Filipino guys who can glide smoothly around the dance floor with the Waltz, Tango, and Foxtrot, and da Latin guys who can burn da floor with Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, and Cha Cha. Our main boy figured fo' sure he goin' look amateurish among those polished dancers but he remembered the words from his dance teacher, "Eh no shame! No body goin' spark you! Dey too busy dancing!" And he also remembered that he is da Leeda and if he leads well, his lady partner goin' follow like clockwork. So equipped with those words of wisdom, he downs a glass of Wine, grabs his Wild Wahine and Social Dances all night. He was something awesome and Happy. And so was his one Happy Wild Wahine. Now you figgah, is there's a point to learn from this story???

Just Musing Blast From Da Past Dancing In The Islands 2

It was a big thrill for Lani and me when we performed the WALTZ/RUMBA Medley as amateur  dancers on the TV show "Dancing In The Islands" some years back.
