Basic Slow Foxtrot Fundamentals Workshop with Geoffrey Fells

Our next special workshop will be conducted by Geoffrey Fells on Monday, December 15, on basic foxtrot fundamentals (see attachment for details). The foxtrot is an elegant and beautiful dance when proper technique is used. Geoffrey is the master of fundamentals and can make your foxtrot flow and look better. His Workshop should benefit beginners as well as advanced dancers.

Dance Magic 808 Masquerade Ball & Membership Drive

Check it out! And I kid you not. This is one of the the best offer for membership by a dance organization so far. Do the math and you'll know why. And no forget, this is a Masquerade Ball and not the Halloween kine. 

1. Palladium - full ballroom - Saturday, November 29, 2014 /Masquerade Ball & Dance Magic 808's 2015 Membership Drive from 6pm - 9:30pm. For those of you who sign up on or before this dance for 2015 membership, will be able to attend this dance free as well as Dec. 19, 2014. If not signing up yet for 2015 membership, cost $3 members/$6 for non-members. This is a Masquerade Ball, not a Halloween mask dance. Ladies can wear a ballgown if they choose to but it's not required to attend the dance. Men can dress up too if they wish. Masquerade masks (not Halloween masks) are encouraged but is not required. We just want to have a lot of fun at this dance. Dance Magic 808's Tango Group formation will perform their routine. There will be a lot of general dancing so come out and have some fun.

2. Palladium - full ballroom - Friday, December 19, 2014 /Dance Magic 808's Holiday Dance / 6pm - 9:30pm /cost $3 for members/ $6 for non-members and free for Dance Magic 808's 2015 members.

Reminder: The palladium will be closed from November 3 - 10, 2014. They will be working on the palladium during that week so there won't be any classes or dances.

Come out and have some fun before they close the palladium for a week. Join us on Friday, October 31 at the palladium. Get your dancing in before the palladium closes for a week.

Don't forget to attend Dance Magic 808's Halloween Dance this Friday night, October 31, 2014 at 6pm - 9:30pm. Our DJ for the evening will be Henry Rimas. He has been our DJ for our anniversary balls and will be our DJ for October 31.

We have the full ballroom for you to enjoy dancing.

If you plan to be in our costume contest, please register at the reception desk and get your number for the contest.

$20 (this category will be left up to the judges - it could be most beautiful, best couple, etc.)

At 7:45pm we will make some announcement, start the costume contest and have a performance.

Costume Contestants will walk around the room starting from the stage.

While the judges are tabulating their selections, there will be a performance from Dance Magic 808's Foxy Ladies & Fox. Routine is choreographed by Roxanne "Roxie" Kaino, Dance Magic 808's Line Dance Instructor.

Contest winners will be announced after the performance and there will be more general dancing. We plan to have snack around 8:45pm - 9:00pm to allow lots of time for everyone to dance.

Come out and cheer on all the participants in the costume contest and the performance.

It'll be a fun evening. Even if you aren't planning to be in the contest, you are welcome to come in costume but it's not required to have fun.

Dance Magic 808 Hosting Latin Workshop with Carlos Chang

(Excerpts from eMail by Lynn Nakamura, Dance Magic 808 President) Hi Everyone, Dance Magic 808 is offering 3 Latin Workshops by Professional Instructor/Dancer, Carlos Chang in November at the Ala Wai Palladium. We are excited and happy to welcome back Carlos Chang to the islands. He will be here for a short stay, about 3 weeks, so we want to make sure that you have the opportunity to take as many workshops and classes while he's here. Latin Workshops by Professional Instructor/Dancer, Carlos Chang. Don’t miss out on these awesome workshops with Carlos. He has great workshops. You learn a lot and he makes it fun. Must be a Dance Magic 808 member to attend the workshops. The workshops are for the new and also the experienced dancers. Everyone can learn something. The workshops will be in 2 parts. The first part will be techniques, then a break, and the second part will be a short choreography of the dance. Our Keiki & Youth program for ballroom dancing was established under "Hawaii Dancesport, Inc.," a non-profit registered with the State of Hawaii, pending approval of its IRS Section 501(c)(3) status. This program, supported by fundraisers and donations is not only for Divino Ritmo Dancestudents, but for ALL interested keikis and Youth in Hawaii.

The criteria for scholarship eligibility may be found on Hawaii Dancesport's website indicated above. A hundred percent (100%) of the proceeds from this benefit will go towards Hawaii Dancesport Inc.'s keiki and youth scholarship fund.

We need your continued support to help nourish & build character in our future citizens, Hawaii's Keikis, through the discipline of ballroom dancing and competition. Your contribution toward this cause will be much appreciated.

Aloha Everyone,

Sign up for our 2015 Membership on or before Nov. 29 and receive free admittance to the dances at the palladium on Sat., Nov. 29 and Friday, Dec. 19, 2014. We have the full ballroom for both dances.

Don't forget our Halloween Dance on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014 at the palladium. We have the full ballroom and we will have a costume contest with cash prizes.
2014 Members $3 / non members $6.00 to attend the dance.

Nov. 29 & Dec. 19, 2014 - if you will not be renewing your membership until Jan. 2015, the cost to attend the dances will be $3 for 2014 members and $6.00 for non-members. Again, if you sign up for 2015 membership on or before Nov. 29, admittance is free to you on Nov. 29 & Dec.19. Anyone who also sign up for 2015 Membership after Nov. 29 but on or before Dec. 19 will get free admittance to the dance.

Anyone interested in joining in our quickstep group routine for Dance Magic 808's 4th Anniversary Ball, please advise us asap. You must be a 2015 member and be registered for a class during the entire time we are practicing and performing the routine. If you will be taking a trip 2 months before the performance, you might want to consider participating next year. The choreographers will determine if they will accept the students for this performance depending if the students can make the practices and if they can execute the steps. It's going to be a fun routine and beginners and advance students are welcome to join the routine.

There was also a new Line Dance taught by Joshua at the
Dance Magic 808 Anniversary Ball in Las Vegas last year. 

Also, we are planning to choreograph a hustle group routine to be performed on April 26, 2015 at our Las Vegas Showcase. Please let us know asap since practice might begin as early as Nov. 2014. Same requirements will apply for this routine as it does for the quickstep routine.

IBDI 5th Term Class Schedule

Registration for IBDI 5^th Term starts on Monday, October 6. Attached are the schedule of classes and the calendar for the 5^th Term. For beginner and novice dancers IBDI, will be offering International Cha Cha, Merengue and American Rumba. For the more experienced dancers, Jimmy Matsumoto will be continuing his popular International Samba class, and Ed and Matilda Felix will be teaching International Rumba and Foxtrot. The Felixes teach many patterns that are new to many dancers. You can add to these patterns to your dancing and impress.

At the same time during registration and free dancing in the Ewa ballroom on October 6, IBDI will be offering a Tango workshop with Glen Okazaki and Anne Ho in the Diamond Head ballroom.

Dance Magic 808 Las Vegas Showcase

Dance Magic 808 Las Vegas Showcase

Hi Everyone,

Come & join us for some fun time and dancing at Dance Magic 808's 4th Las Vegas Showcase on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Sam's Town Hotel & Casino. There will be a buffet dinner, some exhibitions, and lots of general dancing.

Every year has been so much fun and next year will be even better. The banquet tickets are $58.00 per person.

Roy Hamasaki is arranging a Vacations Hawaii package for 5 nights which begins on 4/22/2015 and returns to Honolulu on 4/27/2015. The package includes 5 nights lodging, roundtrip airfare to Las Vegas, transportation and baggage handling to/from airport to hotel, and meal coupons. Cost from Honolulu is $759.00 per person for double occupancy and for single about $80.00 more.

You are also welcome to join us at the college competition on Friday & Saturday, 4/24 & 4/25 at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). They have some general dancing between the competitions.
