Divino Ritmo brings you "Backwards Night" at the CUPOLA, this Tuesday, June 25th, 6:30p-9:30p, 2nd floor of the Honolulu Design Center (1250 Kapiolani).

Backwards Night is our social dance night to celebrate all things opposite or backwards! There is nothing more fun sometimes than doing everything backwards and to see how far and creative you can get turning things around.

CASH PRIZES for top 2 "MOST BACKWARD" presentations! Show us how creative you can get! Wear your clothes backwards? Dance backwards when it should be forward? Come act, dress, dance, and be as backwards as you want!!

Seems like it was eons ago that the mini dance mag "Dancing In The Dark" produced and published by Pepe was widely read in our dancing community. It was enjoyable just to pick it up at my convenience and read about the going on's in the dance world. Well time has changed rapidly and now the social media is by electronic means.....iPods, computers, Kindle Fire, Nook, etc. One thing fo' sure is that Lani and I got started on our Weblogs: "The Dance Connection" and "That's Dancing" with Pepe's guidance.

Dance Magic 808 2nd Anniversery Ball

"Time Flys" as the saying go. And time has sure gone by quickly since Dance Magic 808 successful 1st Anniversary Ball last year. Dance Magic 808 went Big Time for that event with the Showcase of exhibition dancers from their own instructional staff, the dance team of "Dance Now" from Los Angeles, CA, a dance couple from the University of Nevada Las Vegas Dance Team, and the formation dancers from Kauai Ballroom Dance Club. Topping it was the TV  video coverage by Olelo Television on Oceanic Channel 52.  Lani and I were in that showcase dancing the Club Merengue. It wasn't easy getting started in gear for us at that time since we were out of the exhibition circuit since '92. But the challenge was there and we enjoyed being in that showcase. So what's in store for this 2nd Anniversary Ball? Well it's anybody's guess but the surest thing to find out is to be there at the Pacific Beach Hotel Grand Ballroom on August 9. Boy! It's been many moons since Lani and I danced to the tunes of a live band. Goes to show that we haven't been hitting the night club circuit in many moons, too. Well, come June 7 at the Palladium, Hawaii Gardenia Circle is bringing in the Pat "King" Koh Live Band for your dancing pleasure. IBDI Opens 3rd Term Dance Classes

IBDI opened their 3rd Term dance classes this past Monday at the Palladium. Lani and I got to the Palladium a little before 7 PM...a bit early for our Mambo class but gave us time to checkout Jimmy and Mae Matsumoto's International Samba II, and Ernie and Karen Choy's International Tango I. Both classes were in full swing with a good number of students. Our Mambo class started at 7:20 at the Ewa Ballroom and we were assisted by Kathy Uehara and Beverly Mau with music player Harold Kaneshiro. Lani and I weren't sure how the Mambo will appeal to the students since its close cousin the Salsa has been riding the waves for a long time. Much to our surprise, the Mambo drew a good number of students. In the Diamond Head Ballroom were Richard and Lynn Nakamura's Quickstep I and II. They had a good number of students also. After our Mambo class, Carolyn Noah's West Coast Swing took over the Ewa Ballroom, and Jim Prado's American Tango II occupied the Diamond Head Ballroom. Their classes drew a lot of students also. Next Monday is a holiday....so no dance classes till June 3rd. Prez Chris Jay sez... registration for dance classes is still open.

Friday, May 24, 2013 is Dance Magic 808′s palladium dance. We have the full ballroom and it’s free for members. Non-members would be charged $5.00. Our dances are a lot of fun. You’ll be able to practice the dances that you are learning and be able to just social dance. Dance is from 6pm – 9:30pm.

Paving The Way for Dance Magic 808 Anniversary Ball 2013

Hi Everyone,

This year's anniversary ball will be just as fun and exciting as last year and it may even be better than last year's. Last year, our 1st Anniversary Ball was the "Ball" of the year and this year, we expect that it'll be the same.

We are having a Royal Couple (International Dress) Competition (open only to Dance Magic 808 members) and the prize is the 2 dinner ticket cost for the evening.

There will be a delicious buffet dinner, exciting exhibitions, Royal Couple Dress Competition, lots of general dancing, and lots of time to make new friends and chat with old friends.

We just started distributing our anniversary ball tickets on March 30, 2013. If you and your friends would like to attend our anniversary ball you can purchase tickets from your dance club or from Dance Magic 808's Officers, Board Members, and/or Instructors. Check our website www.dancemagic808 for information.
Tickets were given to President Glenn Okazaki & his wife, Tracy of USA Dance Club, President Rudy Luat of Pan Pacific Ballroom Dance Club, President Deanie Bates of Aiea Ballroom Dance Club, President Keoki Galas of Friends of Ala Wai, Board Member, Gayle Kawahakui of Hawaii Gardenia Circle, President Chris Jay of IBDI and President Diane Wong of Ilima Dance Club. Foxtrot Workshop with Stephan & Denise Krauel

USA Dance will have another great workshop with Stephan & Denise Krauel. This workshop will be on the International Foxtrot., to be held on Saturday afternoon, April 13. Stephan & Denise will be working on the fundamental movement and techniques involved to dance the foxtrot. Stephan has a great ability to explain and demonstrate what he is teaching. All of Stephan’s and Denise’s workshops we have held were smashing successes. Word is getting around on how great these workshops are.

There are students of different levels/caliber from other dance clubs that also join us for the workshops. If you have a friend who may be hesitant, encourage them to attend. It will be worth their while.Workshop will be held at the Ala Wai Golf Course Clubhouse, 2nd Floor ‘Palladium’. See attached flyer for information pertaining to this workshop.
