Dance Magic 808's 2nd Anniversary Ball on Friday, August 9,
2013, at the Pacific Beach Hotel is coming up fast.
If you plan on
attending, you should try to get your tickets asap as we plan to stop
selling tickets around July 20. If you don't want to miss out on this fabulous
fun and exciting evening, get your tickets now.
Also, if you are
planning to stay at the hotel and haven't made reservations yet, call asap. If
there are any rooms left on the block it will be return to the hotel's inventory
on July 8, 2013. If the block is sold out and there are still rooms available
at our group rate, you must book it by July 8 to receive the group
rate.
Thanks to Connie Laderta, we will have a mini Hawaiian plate at
our dance at the palladium on Aug 10 for the people that attend our anniversary
ball on Aug. 9 at the Pacific Beach Hotel. It's our small way of saying "Thank
You" to all the people for their support. Tickets will be given out at
the palladium for the mini Hawaiian plate. We will have the name list of all
the people that attended the anniversary ball. Sorry, but this is only for the
people that attended the ball, no substitutes.

IBDI 4th Term Registration, and West Coast Swing Workshop with Debbie Borges Barboza

Debbie Borges Barboza, long time local
professional and owner of the Dream To Dance Studio, will conduct a one
hour West Coast Swing Workshop on Monday, July 22, 2013, in the Ala Wai
Palladium Diamond Head Ballroom. Emphasis will be on syncopation
timing, styling, whip variations, and groupings for dancing. Workshop
registration will start at 7:00 pm. Cost is $5.00 at the door for
members and $8.00 for non-members.
Also on the July 22, registration
for 4th term classes will
take place from 6:00 to 7:30 pm in the Ewa Ballroom.

Michael has organized one of the premier ballroom events in North America, the Millennium Dancesport Championships, since 1997, and is co-organizer of the Hollywood Danceport in L.A., as well as of the Venice Dance Festival which is the largest pro/am competition in Europe, and the Florida Superstars Dancesport Championships, which gives out the largest pro/am and professional cash purses in America.

Seems like it was eons ago that the mini dance mag "Dancing In The Dark" produced and published by Pepe was widely read in our dancing community. It was enjoyable just to pick it up at my convenience and read about the going on's in the dance world. Well time has changed rapidly and now the social media is by electronic means.....iPods, computers, Kindle Fire, Nook, etc. One thing fo' sure is that Lani and I got started on our Weblogs: "The Dance Connection" and "That's Dancing" with Pepe's guidance.

IBDI Opens 3rd Term Dance Classes

IBDI opened their 3rd Term dance classes this past Monday at the Palladium. Lani and I got to the Palladium a little before 7 PM...a bit early for our Mambo class but gave us time to checkout Jimmy and Mae Matsumoto's International Samba II, and Ernie and Karen Choy's International Tango I. Both classes were in full swing with a good number of students. Our Mambo class started at 7:20 at the Ewa Ballroom and we were assisted by Kathy Uehara and Beverly Mau with music player Harold Kaneshiro. Lani and I weren't sure how the Mambo will appeal to the students since its close cousin the Salsa has been riding the waves for a long time. Much to our surprise, the Mambo drew a good number of students. In the Diamond Head Ballroom were Richard and Lynn Nakamura's Quickstep I and II. They had a good number of students also. After our Mambo class, Carolyn Noah's West Coast Swing took over the Ewa Ballroom, and Jim Prado's American Tango II occupied the Diamond Head Ballroom. Their classes drew a lot of students also. Next Monday is a holiday....so no dance classes till June 3rd. Prez Chris Jay sez... registration for dance classes is still open.
Friday, May 24, 2013 is Dance Magic 808′s palladium dance. We have the full ballroom and it’s free for members. Non-members would be charged $5.00. Our dances are a lot of fun. You’ll be able to practice the dances that you are learning and be able to just social dance. Dance is from 6pm – 9:30pm.

Paving The Way for Dance Magic 808 Anniversary Ball 2013

This year's anniversary ball will be just as fun and exciting as last year and it may even be better than last year's. Last year, our 1st Anniversary Ball was the "Ball" of the year and this year, we expect that it'll be the same.
We are having a Royal Couple (International Dress) Competition (open only to Dance Magic 808 members) and the prize is the 2 dinner ticket cost for the evening.
There will be a delicious buffet dinner, exciting exhibitions, Royal Couple Dress Competition, lots of general dancing, and lots of time to make new friends and chat with old friends.
We just started distributing our anniversary ball tickets on March 30, 2013. If you and your friends would like to attend our anniversary ball you can purchase tickets from your dance club or from Dance Magic 808's Officers, Board Members, and/or Instructors. workshop with Stephan & Denise Krauel. This workshop will be on the
International Foxtrot., to be held on Saturday afternoon, April
13. Stephan & Denise will be working
on the fundamental movement and techniques involved to dance the
foxtrot. Stephan has a great ability to
explain and demonstrate what he is teaching. All of Stephan’s and Denise’s
workshops we have held were smashing successes. Word is
getting around on how great these workshops are.
There are students of different
levels/caliber from other dance clubs that also join us for the
workshops. If you have a friend who may be
hesitant, encourage them to attend. It will be worth their

WASABI March Madness
LOL, did I grab your attention with my subject line? No? Well, I
tried...
We have only (2) public gigs this month, which means you all just have to
come out. No excuses. ha ha ha!
Here they are:
- Thursday, March 14.....St. Louis Alumni 7-10 p.m.
- Friday, March 29.......Flashback Friday at Ige's 8:30-11:30 p.m.
We plan on making the most of it, so we hope you'll join us. Can't have
fun, if you all are not there, right?!
