We're all gearing up for Geoffrey Fell's Hawaii Star Ball which starts on Wednesday, Sep 26th and runs through the 28th, with a kick off reception on Tuesday night.

Our CUPOLA social dance will resume and be back on schedule next month, Tuesday October 27th, just in time for our trick or treat party, with costume contest and lots of fun stuff! Come see if you can spot Lucas & Yanna in their Halloween disguise!

USA Dance International Waltz Workshop

Rounding up the DANCE WORKSHOPS at the Palladium for September is USA Dance Honolulu's International Waltz with Stephan Krauel. Here's an excerpt from Glenn Okazaki's e-mail................. Da Bucket List for October 2012

WOW! We've been having a wild September what with Dance Workshops galore. And now it's time to see what's in the "bucket" for  October. But first I gonna give a plug for our newest dance club in Honolulu (okay..I'm a member). Dance Magic 808 is hosting their very first Social Dance at the Palladium on Sunday, September 30th from 6PM to 9PM or maybe later. If you missed going to the Dance Magic 808 1st Anniversary Ball at the Pacific Beach Hotel this past July, Olelo will be televising the two hour event on Channel 52 this Friday (9/21) from 2pm to 4PM.

If you got DANCING SHOES and WILL TRAVEL, Kauai Ballroom Dance Club hosting their Anniversary Ball at the Kauai Marriott Hotel on October 6. If you don't like to travel that far, then you might want to check in to Dance Magic 808's Filipino Tango Workshop at the Palladium on October 6 from 12:30PM. Instructors will be Andy and Monica Pascua. Registration, and Line Dancing by Roxanne at 12 Noon.

To our Senior Teens, Friends and Classmates!

On behalf of our harworking, dedicated active core committee, we welcome you all as registered guest for our upcoming 6th Annual Nifty 50s/60s/70s Oldies Bash Sock Hop 2012 on October 19th! Based on First Come, First Served registration, you are one of our lucky attendees to register prior to our "completely" selling on July 10th, 2012, a FULL 3.5 months in advance of our event date! Please remember, we do NOT distribute or issue "tickets" to our event. We REGISTER our guest as every seat, every table IS reserved. When you arrive please checkin at our Reception Tables, your Names will be listed, so just checkin.

Thanks to earlier than usual paid registration, this years event broke all previous records for the earliest complete sellout and total attendance! Our Event has to follow all Fire Code Laws and the Safety and Comfort policies of the hotel. With this complete sellout hundreds of your fellow Senior Teens, Friends and Classmates will be joining you! Your early registration is appreciated, and its unfortunate that we have had to turn away several hundred late registrations which came in after we soldout. Swing Dance Club Workshop with Michael Kiehm

Michael Kiehm, world champion dancer and owner and director of Starlight Dance Studio in San Diego will be in Honolulu for a two-day workshop next month at the Palladium. If you're hooked on "Club Dancing", you're gonna want to explore Michael's entertaining way of teaching the three most popular club dances: the West Coast Swing, the Hustle, and Night Club Two Step. Dance Magic 808 Dance Workshop with Professional Leeanne Brampton

You are all invited to attend Dance Magic 808's Dance Workshop with Professional Instructor, Leeanne Bampton.

We are very fortunate to have Leeanne teach us here in the islands instead of going to Australia to learn from her. We are offering our members 3 workshops with Leeanne. You must be a member to take advantage of these workshops. Come and join us. You’ll learn a lot and it'll be fun.

Leeanne has won the Australian 10 Dance Championship 7 times and represented Australia in a World Final Competition where she came in fifth overall in the Ballroom and Latin Dances. She has also been South Pacific, Asian Pacific, Australasian and State Champion in the professional ranks. Leeanne has her dance studio in Sydney, Australia and retired from competition in 2004. She is the Dance Director of Dancing with the Stars in Australia and is a choreographer for So You Think You Can Dance in Australia.

These might be the only group classes that she'll have on this trip as she will be helping her students with the Star Ball competition. You can also book private lessons with her but you'll need to do it right away since she usually gets booked up fast. For those of you who do not already take lessons from her and would like to book some private lessons, please contact us and we'll give you her contact.

Space for the workshop is limited and will be on a first come basis. Video taping will be allowed.

Hope For The Best For Cole Horibe

Family, Friends and Supporters of Cole:

I am sick to my stomach to receive this news about Cole's 

injury!!!!!!

I am so very very sorry!!! It couldn't have come at a 

worse time but what can we do but hope for the best, 

Pray hard.

Cole is young and strong and determined....mind over 

matter, he has strong will and we will pary hard he comes 

through....

Please pray hard for him,  send your spiritual support 

and well wishes....

We will weather this together! Cole is not alone.

I told Wanda herself and to tell Cole to hang in there, 

to tell Cole to stay strong and keep the faith!

Cole suffered a foot injury and was in the hospital most 

of the day!!! Drs. said he can't dance for 2 days and show 

this week they have to tape on Tuesday because Nigel has 

an important meeting...it will aire on Wednesday same time. 

Please please ask everyone to pray & or send positive 

thoughts & prayers....he is devastated because you know 

how he practices 12-15hrs everyday! And he thinks he's 

terrible in this routine (as usual) and now with this 

injury.....please share this w/everyone who's supporting

Addiction Routine - Gravity - A SIDE BY SIDE COMPARISON of Kayla/Kupono & Cole/Lindsay

Hey guys and gals! If you missed Cole and Lindsay's performance this week on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, and want to compare their performance with the original performance. Then read the e-mail from my good friend Marie and be sure to click on the link below ..............

Cole Horibe, Yanna's student, performed a contemporary piece with 

partner Lindsay to the choreography of Mia Michaels this week. 

The judges called Cole "psychotically mental" and that he has come 

out the TOP of all the dancers this week. This particularly video 

is a side-by-side presentation of the same Mia Michaels routine 

done by Cole this week as compared to the original couple who 

performed the same routine a few seasons ago. Both set of dancers 

did a unique an incredible rendition....they each took ownership of 

the choreography and made it their own! Yanna, Lucas and all the

students of Divino Ritmo are so proud of Cole...... PLEASE stay 

tuned for next Wednesday's So You Think You Can Dance and PLEASE 

VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE for our native son Cole Horibe!

There's more happenings this month after the IBDI Anniversary Ball on August 18 at the Palladium. Bantay Bata's DRAGON BALL DANCE at the Pacific Beach Hotel on Friday, August 24. Last year's Ball was a smash hit with a showcase of dancers from DIVINO RITMO and other dance organizations. (See photos)

If you can't make it there, then there's USA Dance UNDER THE AUGUST MOON DANCE at the Palladium that same night.

MTA Oldies Night

For you guys and gals on the Central and Leeward side, if you can't make it to the IBDI 51st Anniversary Dance at the Palladium on Saturday August 18; there's still dancing goin' on at your side of the island. Take a gander at the e-mail from Doreen of WASABI..........................

WASABI will be at Mililani Rec 5 this coming Saturday, August 18, and hope some of you can make it for an early evening of dancing fun, light refreshments & munchies. MTA (Mililani Town Association) has graciously opened this event up to non-Mililani residents so our WASABI friends can join us. We started off at Rec 3, but after a couple of good turnouts, we needed more "elbow room", and our friend Mei Linn got us moved to Rec 5, which is so much bigger & easier to find (for our friends who are not familiar with finding their way around Mililani). Rec 5 is right off the H-2 Freeway...take H-2 North towards Wahiawa, take the 2nd Mililani exit after passing over Kipapa Gulch, then turn left at the traffic light (you'll see Rec 5 right across the intersection). Stay in the right lane cuz you'll be taking the next right, then another right into the driveway for Rec 5. Go all the way in, and you'll be at Rec 5. We'll start at 7:00 p.m. and end at 9:30 p.m., and Rec 5 is huge with a nice floor, so we'll have lots of room for dancing! There'll be an $8 cover charge at the door...

IBDI Celebrates 51 Years

Over a half a century in providing an avenue for people young and young-at-heart to enjoy one of the finest things in life through movement of dancing, IBDI is still going strong. Come Saturday, August 18th they will host a dance at the Palladium to celebrate their 51st Anniversary. Be sure to purchase a  presale ticket early so you don't miss out on the bento. Venturing with IBDI and Dance Magic 808

WOW! Monday, August 6 sure raced by quickly since Lani and I danced the Club Merengue at the Dance Magic 808 1st Anniversary Ball last month. Starting tomorrow night, we will be sharing some of the Merengue steps with IBDI at the Palladium. This will be our first venture with IBDI and I'm sure it will be a good venture and a fun one.

On Tuesday, August 21, Lani and I will be at Salt Lake District Park with the East Coast Swing (Triple Step Swing) for Dance Magic 808 to complete the last two sessions for Joshua Manzano who goes back to Las Vegas after four sessions of the Bolero. It's gonna be a tough act to follow with the EC Swing but Lani and I will try to make it fun and enjoyable.

USA Dance Mock Competition Tonight!

Aloha,

This evening is our exciting Mock Competition event. Our amateur couples will dance for you just like in a real competiton. We will start the mock competition with our Latin program, followed by our youth K-12 (Kindergarten to 12 th grade) dancers and the Standard portion of the competition. Our Latin participants will do 4 Latin dances. They are: Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rhumba and Jive.

Our K-12 dancers will dance the Waltz and the Quick step. There will be 5 dances for our Standard participants. They are: Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quick Step.

The Mock Comp is to prepare our Amateur Competitors for their upcoming competitions such as the Hawaii Star Ball and USA Dance National Qualifying events, and then, on to the National Championships next year. Come and cheer for the participants and give them the feeling of a real competition.

If you have not purchased your ticket for the event yet, you will have to buy a ticket at the door. Tickets at the door is $10.00.

Please come early and get a good seat. See you on Saturday evening.

Dance Magic 808 July-August Dance Classes

Aloha Everyone,

Just to give you a heads up on what classes will be taught and the dates & times. 

Joshua Manzano said that on Sat., Aug. 4 at the palladim, he will be teaching the American Tango. It will be a fun class and that you'll learn a lot. It's not your average American Tango that is taught in the islands so we welcome the International dancers to take this class too.

Joshua will also be teaching on Tuesday nights starting July 31 and he will be continuing with his awesome bolero class.

Frank & Lani Sierra will teach the East Coast Swing the last 2 Tuesdays nights.

Ed Ho & Veronica Munez will be back teaching starting July 31 and they will be teaching the exciting salsa dance.

Line Dancing by Roxanne Kaino will be taught on Thursday nights and it'll be for a longer time. This session, no line dancing on Tuesdays.

Lester & Henrietta Muramoto will be teaching the beautiful International Waltz on Thursday nights.

Reminder: 

This week is Dance Magic 808's Appreciation Dance at the palladium on Friday, July 27. We hope to see everyone there.

Also this week is USA Dance's mock competition on Saturday, July 28. This is a fantastic event where you'll see lots of nice and colorful costumes and some really good dancing. Please be sure to get your tickets at Tuesday's class or send me an email or text messages if you need tickets. We had 20 tickets and have already sold 10 tickets. Creighton & Beverly Goo are our ticket sales people but they won't be in class on Tuesday so if you need tickets, please see Lynn. Richard & I will be participating in the mock competition and we hope that you'll come out and support us.

Thank you all for your support at Dance Magic 808's 1st Anniversary Ball. We have received many compliments about the ball and about all the exhibitions. It was so much fun celebrating and sharing our occasion with you and many of members from the other dance organziations.

We are so thankful to have such great and caring members (which we consider as our friends) as well as having friends at the other dance clubs.

Dance Magic 808 was created so that everyone could learn to dance and have fun.

We are still recovering from this July 6, 2012, Dance Magic 808's 1st Anniversary Ball, and will soon send out another thank you thru Frank Sierra's blog, The Dance Connections, so be sure to check to Frank's blog.

As mentioned at the "Ball", we will be offering a quickstep class this Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Ala Wai Palladium from 12:30pm - 3:30pm. If you sign up for the quickstep class, you will be able to take the free line dancing class at 12:00pm. Classes will be offered only to members. You must be a member to take a class. Annual Membership fee is $10 and will expire on December 31, 2012. Besides having some classes at the palladium, we will be having some social dances at the palladium. By being a member of Dance Magic 808, you will be entitled to some discount as members to some of our upcoming dance events/socials.

Friday night is "Da Big Night" at the Pacific Beach Hotel for Dance Magic 808 1st Anniversary Ball. If you are one of the more than 400 lucky ticket holders to this event that features General Dancing, Onolicious Buffet Dinner and a Showcase of Exhibition Dancers, then here's a tip to make this evening fun, exciting, and enjoyable. To all the women that will be attending Dance Magic 808's 1st Anniversary Ball: You are all invited to enter a contest for the title of Dance Magic 808's 2012 Belle of the Ball. The Princess, Duchess, Lady, etc. that best represents Dance Magic 808's Enchanting Evening Theme will be the winner and will win a cash prize of $120.00 (cost of two tickets to tonight's event). We used Cinderella in our flyers, invitations, tickets, favors, and banner to make it a special enchanting evening so come dressed up to impress the judges and audience. We want the look that Cinderella had when her fairy godmother made her beautiful and not the look of cinder and rags.....hahaha! To enter the contest, you must be there at the ball by 6:30 pm for the judges to see you. Even if you don't enter the contest, please come dressed up. Divino Ritmo @The Cupola

Aloha Dancers, Lucas and Yanna are still at Tampa, Florida for the Millenium Dance Sport Competition. So are Paul and Marie. Just to let you know that there will be no Divino Ritmo Social Dancing this coming Tuesday (6/26) at the Cupola. Divino Ritmo Social Dancing at the Cupola will resume on the last Tuesday in July.

WASABI Still Hot In July

If you're looking for more heat this summer, WASABI has got some hot stuff for the month of July. But first, go read the e-mail from Doreen............................

Before I get started, I want to let you know this is my new email address ( saracompany10@gmail.com ). I had to open a new gmail account because my hotmail account got hacked. Luckily, I had actually set up this gmail account about 7 months ago because my hotmail account was kinda junk and frustrating to use; especially with somebody like me, who's totally "lame" when it comes to the computer. Well, to make a long story short, I had imported most of my email addresses to my gmail account thinking that I would change over when I had time to figure out how to use gmail...Ok, soooooo...now I was rudely forced to actually jump into gmail, BUT, at least I have most of my email addresses!!! I am missing all of the addresses that were given to me from November 2011 to now, so if you remember whose addresses you gave me recently, can you kindly send them to me again so I can add them to my contact list?

If you emailed me anything important in the last couple of weeks that need my attention, please resend 'em to me...I lost all my emails that were in my hotmail! Boo hoo hoo! I had all my pictures that people sent me in there that are now lost...Hey, if you guys still have pictures of you & us, can you send 'em to me? I had Dr. Fixit come over to try to reopen my hotmail cuz Microsoft shutdown my account when I got hacked, but he said that the hacker has some kind of encrypted sh-t that prevented him from reopening the account, so I can't get back in...He said these hackers have nothing better to do than make people miserable. He also recommends gmail, so it's a good thing I had one, yeah?!

Now back to business. Here's what we got in the month of July:

It's predicted to be a busy night cuz one of our WASABI fans booked her party there that night, and the count has grown to 120, plus we have Garry Moore's Pearl City classmates, and of course, our ever-faithful friends, YOU, and a whole bunch of other people! Ron said it's gonna be really packed, so make sure you all come early for parking!

Que Pasa Dance Magic 808 1st Anniversary Ball?

Aloha Students of Dance and non-dancers,

        The Dance Magic 808 First Anniversary Ball is fast approaching. So what's gonna happen at the Pacific Beach Hotel on July 6th?  Well here's a small hint by Dance Magic 808 Prez Lynn and Richard Nakamura.....................

For those of you who have already purchased tickets to Dance Magic 808's 1st Anniversary Ball on July 6, 2012 at the Pacific Beach Hotel, Thank You very much. We would also like to thank everyone who has sold or is selling tickets to the ball.

We know some of you would like to come but are not able to attend due to other previous commitments like a family trip, wedding, graduation party, and etc.; we understand and we would also like to thank you for your well wishes.

We appreciate everyone's support of Dance Magic 808's 1st Anniversary Ball.

This will be an enchanting evening. We have lined up some entertainment that non-dancers and dancers will enjoy.

To start the night, we'll have a hula by Leilani Soon, and everyone will feast on a delicious buffet dinner. There will be a lot of socializing and dancing.

Don't want to give away all of our enchanting evening's program but our special guest singer will be the legendary Melveen Leed. She is an awesome entertainer and we are very fortunate to have her sing for us at the ball. We will be asking her to sing a song and will ask all dancers to come up to the floor to dance. We are also fortunate to have our niece, Kim Anderson & her boyfriend, Tony Butindaro sing a song where the audience can dance too. Kim has had several lead roles in plays at the different theaters here locally and Tony has the lead in Xanadu now playing at the Diamond Head Theater.

We will also have some exciting solo and group routines to entertain everyone. There will be a lot of time for general dancing before dinner, during the program, and after the program. Besides the ballroom dances, we will have some swing dances as well as line dances for everyone including the non-dancers to join in on.

This will be a very enchanting evening and you can dress up (it's not a requirement). The ladies can wear their gowns and crowns or tiaras and if the men want to wear their crowns that's fine too. We just want to make this a fun evening with everyone participating by either dancing or just watching everyone.

If you haven't purchased your tickets yet, it's still not too late but you'll need to get them fast as we are planning to stop selling the tickets in a week or two.
